Best Actor — Jeff Bridges

The 82nd Academy Awards started off with song and dance man, Neil Patrick Harris, who delivered a solid performance of a witty song. I laughed out loud several times as Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin joked with members of the audience. The comedic duo were good-natured throughout.

The first major award, best supporting actor, went to Christoff Waltz for his portrayal of a Nazi officer. He avoided clichès, as he sincerely thanked Quentin Tarantino and others.

The academy rewarded another villain, Mo’Nique, who played an abusive mother. She won for best supporting actress.

Jeff Bridges won for best leading actor in Crazy Heart. Other winners included Ryan Bingham and T Bone Burnett for best song, Sandra Bullock for best leading actress, Kathryn Bigelow for best director, and The Hurt Locker for best picture.

James Taylor performed as clips of those who died last year played. It was touching.

This year’s event was a classy affair in every way, except for Zac Effron, who embarrassed himself by following that stupid bed-head fad. The fad’s demise is way overdue.
